ESU SOCCER FALLS 3-1 TO NEWMAN
August 29, 2007-- The ESU soccer team fell in it's home opener against Newman University by a score of 3-1. After being outshot 23-3 by Rockhurst the Hornets were out shot by the Jets 22-21 but had more shots on goal at 10-9. Sarah Tetuan led ESU with three shots on goal on the evening
The Hornets scored the first goal of the game as Amanda Miano tapped in a shot to the right corner from two yards out in the ninth minute. Newman tied it on a Lacey Alost goal in the 18th minute.
Goalkeeper Megan Martin left the game with a hand injury at the half and was replaced in goal by Marcie Fundis. It was the first time Fundis has played in goal during her college career. Newman capitilized just two and half minutes into the second half as Amanda Knade scored from ten yards out. Martin's status is unkown. The final goal came on a penalty kick by Alyssa Cox in the 59th minute.
The Hornets will next play this weekend in Ada, Okla. with a game on Friday, Aug. 31 against East Central and a game on Sunday, Sept. 2 against Angelo State.
