
October 4, 2008-Playing without starting quarterback Andre Sloan El, starting tailback Adrian Abner and starting right guard Steve Underwood, Emporia State fell to Central Missouri 42-14 on Saturday in Warrensburg, Mo.
Red shirt freshman Zach Rampy got the start in place of Sloan El at quarterback and was three of six for 68 yards before leaving the game with a hip injury in the second quarter. True freshman Sheldon Smith finished the game for ESU at quarterback and was three for eight for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Xavier Smith was his favorite target, catching three passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.
The Hornets will try to bounce back next week in the Turnpike Tussle against Washburn. Kick-off from Yaeger Stadium at Moore Bowl in Topeka is set for 1 p.m.
