HORNETS FALL TO #10 PSU

November 8, 2008-Emporia State was tied with #10 Pittsburg State at the end of the first quarter, but the Gorillas turned two interceptions into a 21-7 lead on their way to a 52-7 victory on Saturday at Jones Field at Welch Stadium.

Pitt State took the opening kickoff and went 79 yards on 13 plays and took a 7-0 lead on a Mark Smith eight yard touchdown run. ESU responded with an eight play, 70 yard touchdown drive and tied the score on a seven yard pass from Andre Sloan El to Lucas Sullivan. It was the first, first quarter touchdown surrendered by Pitt State in four games.

The Hornets held the Gorillas to a three and out and drove to the PSU 28 yard line when Sloan El was picked off by Chad Snyder. Pitt State went 49 yards in eight plays to go ahead 14-7 on a Caleb Farabi touchdown run. On the next possession the Gorillas Caleb Sanders intercepted Sloan El and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown and 21-7 lead. Pitt State would score on their next five of their next six possessions.

Sloan El gained 60 yards on 14 carries and was eight of 15 for 66 yards passing in seven of 12 ESU possessions before leaving the game with a concussion.

For Pitt State, Caleb Farabi led all rushers with 101 yards on 18 carries. Mark Smith added 60 yards rushing on ten carries and was 13 of 19 for 138 yards and three touchdowns through the air.
