ESU FOOTBALL TRAINING CAMP SCHEDULE
Emporia, Kan. (August 2, 2007)--Emporia State will open up the 2007 campaign with practice number one on Friday, August 3 at 3:30 p.m. at the ESU practice fields north of the HPER Building. Practices are free and open to the general public.
ESU will hold its annual Football Media Day on Saturday, August 18 in Welch Stadium at 1:00 p.m. The Applebee’s Autograph Day at the Flinthills Mall is scheduled for Saturday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m.
The Hornets will open the 2007 season Saturday, September 1 at Western State in Gunnison, Colo.. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (Mountain Time) at the Mountaineer Bowl. ESU’s home opener is slated for Saturday, September 15 against Southwest Baptist. It will be the Hornets first game under first year coach and former ESU quarterback Garin Higgins. Single game and season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the ID Office in the ESU Memorial Union, by calling toll free 877-341-NEST (6378) or on the internet at www.emporia.edu/athletics.
Emporia State returns 16 starters from last year’s 3-8 squad. Four of the eight losses were by three points or less. Emporia State will be in it’s first year under 1992 graduate Garin Higgins. The former Hornet quarterback was the offensive coordinator at Northeastern State last season and Minnesota State in 2005. He compiled a 51-9 record as the head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State from 2000-04 with two appearances in the NAIA Division I championship game.
