ESU TEAMS FINISH SECOND AT OLLIE ISOM INVITATIONAL

October 16, 2009-The Emporia State cross country teams each finished second at the Ollie Isom Invitational in El Dorado, Kan. on Friday afternoon. The men finished second to Garden City CC, the third ranked team in the latest NJCAA National Poll. The women were second to Kansas Wesleyan, who is receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll.

“We felt like running in this competition would give us some good speed work going into the MIAA championships,” said ESU head coach Dave Harris. “In some ways it felt like a track race since it was a circular course we went over a few times.”

For the second straight meet Adam McGovern led the ESU men. He placed fifth overall with a time of 15:29.70 on the five kilometer course. Will Hohmeier finished ninth with a time of 15:40.03 while Skyler Delmott was 11th at 15:47.62 for ESU.

Katie Mona was third overall to lead the ESU women with a time of 14:33.36 over the four kilometer course. Kathryn Davison turned in a top ten performance with a time of 15:17.66 for eighth place.

“This was a good tune up for the MIAA Championships,” said Harris. “We’re looking forward to going out next week and competing hard for a championship on our home course.”

ESU will play host to the MIAA Cross Country Championships on Oct. 24 at Jones Park in northwest Emporia. The women’s race will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men to follow at approximately 11:15 a.m.
