Aug.2, 2007-The Emporia State cross country teams were ranked seventh and eighth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll released by the conference office.
Defending individual champion Jonel Rossbach will be surrounded by six newcomers for the ESU women, who are picked seventh. An All-American last year Rossbach is trying to become the seventh woman to win back to back MIAA championships and the ninth to win two titles during a career.
The Hornet men return all five runners from last year's team that placed tenth in the NCAA South Central Regional Championships. Skyler Delmott was a top 20 finisher for ESU as a freshman. Two freshmen and three sophomores made up the top five at last year's MIAA Championships for the Hornets.
ESU will open the season on September 1 at the KU/Bob Timmons Invitational at Rim Rock Farm outside Lawrence, Kan. The Hornets will play host to the ESU/Jock's Nitch Invitational on September 28 in Emporia's Jones Park.
