ESU MEN WIN JOCK'S NITCH INVITATIONAL; WOMEN SECOND

EMPORIA, KAN. (September 28, 2007)--All-American Jonel Rossbach shattered the course record in winning the women's individual championship and the Emporia State men's cross country team placed four runners in the top nine to win the team championship at the Jock's Nitch Invitational on Friday in Jones Park. The ESU women placed second as a team.

Rossbach became the first person to crack 17 minutes on the Jones Park course finishing in a record time of 16:55 over the five kilometers. She was 1:16 in front of the second place finisher, Danna Kelly of Truman. The previous course record was 17:22 set by an unattached Kellyn Johnson last year. The previous collegiate record was 17:46 by ESU's Kadri Kelve in 2002.

Skyler Delmott won the men's race in 25:20 to pace the Hornets. Brock Ternes placed fourth overall in 25:53 and Marcus Summers ran 26:01 to place fifth overall. The trio swept the top three spots in the team scoring to lead ESU to a 40 point win over Truman. Eric Wellman placed ninth overall for ESU at 26:29 in his final collegiate race on the Jones Park course. Sloane Kern ended the scoring for ESU with a 12th place overall finish.

The ESU women again had good grouping following Rossbach with only 25 seconds separating the next five Hornet runners. Kathryn Davison placed 16th overall at 19:49 while Chelsea Clanton ran 19:51 to place 18th. Morgan Frehe at 19:53, Kylie Bookout at 20:08 and Tiffany Baum at 20:14 placed 21st through 23rd for the Hornets. The ESU women placed second to Park who is ranked #21 in the NAIA national poll.

ESU is back in action on Oct. 6 at the Border States Invitational in Edwardsville, Ill. It is the last meet before the MIAA Championships.
