
July 13, 2009-Emporia State Lady Hornet basketball coach Brandon Schneider has announced the signing of two junior college transfers to attend ESU and play basketball for the Lady Hornets. Forwards Ashley Ferrell and Negesti Taylor will join guards Rachel Hanf and Kelsey Newman and forward Jocelyn Cummings as new members of the Lady Hornets for the 2009-10 season.
Taylor, a 6-1 forward from Harrisburg, Penn., was a second-team All-Region XI selection at Iowa Western CC last season. She averaged 10.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game for the Reivers. She holds the IWCC single season and career records for rebounds. She had 282 boards as a sophomore and 498 in her two years at Iowa Western. She averaged 9.2 points, 12.2 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game as a senior at Harrisburg HS.
Ferrell, a 5-10 forward from Ft. Worth, Texas, was an honorable mention All-Region XIV selection at Kilgore CC last season. She averaged 11 points and eight rebounds per game for the Lady Rangers. As a senior in high school she was named the best rebounder in District 8-4A for O.D. Wyatt HS in Ft. Worth, Texas.
The Lady Hornets were 26-6 a year ago and won their second straight MIAA regular season championship. It was the seventh MIAA regular season title in the last 12 years for ESU.
