#8 LADY HORNETS DEFEAT PITT STATE

February 18, 2009-The #8 Emporia State Lady Hornets used a 15-2 run midway through the second half to open up the game in an 85-70 victory over Pittsburg State on Wednesday in White Auditorium. Sophia Lenard scored 17 points to lead four Lady Hornets in double figures as they moved to 22-3 overall and 16-2 in the MIAA.

ESU led 44-34 at the intermission after the first half saw 13 lead changes and five ties. The Gorillas led by as many as six in the first half before the Lady Hornets went on a 10-1 run to take a 20-17 lead at the 11:54 mark. Pitt State would lead just twice more on the night, the last time at 28-27 with 6:27 left in the first half.

In addition to Lenard's 17 points, Ida Edwardshad 16 points and nine rebounds, Cassondra Boston tossed in 14 points with seven assists and Andrea Leiker added 13 points.

ESU will be off for a week before travelling up the Kansas Turnpike to take on #9 Washburn on February 25. Tip-off for the Turnpike Tussle is set for 5:30 p.m. in Lee Arena.
