LADY HORNETS FALL TO UCO

November 24, 2007—Despite a game high 24 points and 12 rebounds from All-American Michelle Stueve, the #3 Lady Hornets fell to Central Oklahoma 71-66 on the second day of the Cameron/Powerade Thanksgiving Classic in Lawton, Okla.

Tipping off 16 hours after the conclusion of their 80-60 win over Cameron on Friday, the Lady Hornets fell behind 19-4 with 13:41 left in the first half. Stueve hit back to back to back three-pointers in 1:10 for a 9-2 personal run the pulled ESU to within eight points with 11:44 left in the period. The margin would stay there at the end of the half as ESU trailed for the first time this year at the break.
Stueve scored the first eight points of the second period for ESU to pull the Lady Hornets within five at the 17:41 mark. She picked up her fourth foul on a lay-up with 12:57 left and ESU trailing by nine.

With Stueve on the bench, Brittney Miller and Andrea Leiker combined on an 8-1 run to bring the Lady Hornets within two points at 48-46 with 9:29 left in the game. The Bronchos then went on a 6-0 run to push the lead back to eight points and ESU would not get closer than four points the rest of the way.

Steuve and Leiker were the only Lady Hornets in double figures with Leiker ending with 14 points. ESU outrebounded UCO 42-24 but the Lady Hornets turned the ball over 19 times and the Bronchos took advantage with 16 more shots from the field than ESU.

The Lady Hornets play the next three games in White Auditorium beginning with a contest against Evangel on December 3.

NOTES:
Three Lady Hornets fouled out of the game – Stueve, Cssondra Boston and Alli Volkens.
Stueve now has 1,824 points and trails Tara Hollway by 15 points to move into the top three all-time at ESU and trails WU’s Brooke Ubelaker by 24 points to move into the top ten all-time in MIAA scoring.
Stueve became just the sixth Lady Hornet to pull down 800 career rebounds and now has 808 boards in her career. She is seven rebounds shy of Tara Holloway for the top five all-time at ESU and ten away from passing SBU’s Shari Grady for the MIAA top ten.
ESU had not lost in November since a 73-59 loss to South Dakota in Omaha, Neb. on Nov. 29, 2002 - a string of 26 wins in November.
The loss was ESU’s first regular season loss to a non-MIAA South Central Region team since falling at Central Oklahoma in December of 2001.
