#14 LADY HORNETS GO 2-0 IN HAWAII
December 18, 2007-ESU All-American Michelle Stueve scored a game high 25 points with eight rebounds as the #14 Lady Hornets defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State 80-59 at the Hoop'n'Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. With the eight boards, Stueve moved into eighth place in MIAA career rebounding with 852 boards.
Stueve was joined in double figures by Ida Edwards with 19 points and eight rebounds while MIAA Player of the Week Allie Renberg had 18 points and 11 boards. It is the second double-double in three games for Renberg.
The Aggies scored the first four points of the game before the Lady Hornets scored the next seven points to take the lead. ESU would push the lead to 14 points in the first half on back to back three pointers by Stueve and Bree Kisner with 1:40 left in the frame. OPSU scored the first nine points of the second half to pull within 39-38 with 18:22 left. Edwards scored the next six points and Stueve had a steal and lay-up to cap the 8-0 run and put ESU ahead 47-38 with 16:15 left in the game.
The Lady Hornets shot .559 from the field and outrebounded the Aggies 49-27, but committed 27 turnovers to keep OPSU in the game.
ESU is now off until MIAA play begins on January 2 at Ft. Hays State.
NOTES:
Stueve is now three rebounds behind Central Missouri's Rachel Matakas for seventh place all-time in the MIAA.
ESU held OPSU to .328 shooting, the ninth straight game their opponents have shot under .400 this season.
ESU is averaging 94.7 ppg over their last three games and have shot at least .526 from the field in each of the games.
