November 16, 2007-Cassondra Boston hit an ESU record nine three pointers as the Lady Hornets defeated Cameron 81-63 in the first round of the Candlewood Suites/Mix 104.9FM Classic.
The Lady Hornets struggled in the first half, shooting just .375 from the field and trailed by as many as 13 points with 5:21 left in the period. All-American Michelle Stueve and Boston would go on a 9-0 runfor ESU over the final 1:10 of the first period to tie the score at 37-37 going to intermission. Stueve started teh run with a free throw with 1:10 left. After missing her second Allie Renberg hauled down the rebound and fed Boston who was fouled. The 2007 MIAA Freshman of the Year converted both charities to bring ESU within six. After a Cameron miss, Boston connected on a three pointer with 25 seconds left. The Aggies rushed a three at the other end and Stueve nailed a three at the buzzer to tie the score.
After falling behind again to start the second half, ESU took the lead for good with a 13-3 run capped by a Stueve jumper with 8:55 left in the game. Boston would tie Andi McAlexander's two year old school record with her eighth three of the game with 4:57 remaining. With McAlexander looking on from the stands, Boston would break the record thirty seconds later to give ESU a 12 point lead with 4:26 left.
Boston ended with a career high 34 points, hitting her last eight three point attempts. Stueve had 23 points, ten rebounds and a team high five assists for ESU. Allie Renberg had a game high 13 rebounds as the Lady Hornets outrebounded the Aggies 44-29 on the night. Tiffany Williams led CU with 15 points.
The Lady Hornets will play Texas Woman's University on Saturday on the second night of the Classic. TWU fell to #17 Missouri Western 86-82 in the first game of the night.
