January 30, 2008-The #24 Lady Hornets moved into a tie for first place in the MIAA with a 90-76 win at Northwest Missouri on Wednesday night. Ida Edwards scored 23 points on ten of 12 shooting from the field and Cassondra Boston added 24 points and six assists for ESU.
The Bearcats had a 37-36 lead at the half and were up 43-40 at the 18:24 mark. Boston and Edwards then combined for a 10-0 run to take a 50-43 lead with 16:14 left. After Lauren Williams hit a bucket to pull the Bearcats back within five points, the Lady Hornets reeled off a 13-0 run to take an 18 point lead. NWMSU would get within eight points with 3:22 left, but ESU went six of six at the line in the final 1:10 to secure the win.
ESU will play host to Ft. Hays State on Saturday in White Auditorium. The game will be available for free on CSTV broadband, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
NOTES:
Michelle Stueve scored 16 points to move into fourth in all-time scoring in the MIAA. She needs 48 points to pass Becky Reichard's career mark of 2,159 points.
Stueve has hit 22 straight free throws.
