ESU LADY HORNETS RANK SECOND IN NATION IN ATTENDANCE
June 9, 2008-Emporia State basketball fans again proved they are some of the best in the country as the Lady Hornet basketball team ranked in the top six nationally in attendance for the 11 th straight year. It is the second straight year and fourth time overall ESU has finished second in the nation in average attendance.
The Lady Hornets led the MIAA in attendance, averaging 2,272 fans per game. ESU had nine games with over 2,000 fans as they went 12-2 at home to secure their sixth MIAA regular season championship. The smallest crowd for a Lady Hornet game in White Auditorium, 1,134 for a Friday afternoon game against Central Methodist, was better than the average attendance in 20 of 31 NCAA Division I conferences. Emporia State and North Dakota are the only two schools that have ranked in the top six every year over the last 11 years.
ESU was the leader among three MIAA teams in the top ten. As a conference the MIAA drew an average of 1,312 per game and would rank 11 th among all NCAA Division I conferences.
