HORNETS DEFEAT WASHBURN 85-75

January 17, 2009-Emporia State closed the game on a 16-4 run in the final 2:56 to pull out an 85-75 win over Washburn on Saturday night in White Auditorium. Dustin Andrews had a career high 19 points to lead five Hornets in double figures.

With the score tied at 41-41 at the half, WU scored the first 14 points of the second half and led 58-43 with 15:41 remaining. ESU then went on a 10-0 run in 1:30 with four different players scoring to pull within five at 58-53. ESU took the lead for good at 72-71 on a Robert Moores three-pointer with 2:56 left. That ignited a 12-0 run for ESU that pushed the lead to 81-71with 1:02 remaining. ESU would hit eight of ten free throws in the final 1:13 to seal the win.

Andrews was joined in double figures by Lamar Wilbern with 18, Robert Moores with 15 points, Jeremiah Box with 13 and Adam Holthaus with ten points. WU was led by DeAndre Eggins career high 31 points.

With the win ESU remains in a tie for first place in the MIAA before embarking on a three game road trip beginning Wednesday at Ft. Hays State.
