HORNET MEN WIN ON THE ROAD AT NEBRASKA-OMAHA

February 7, 2009-Lamar Wilbern had 20 points and 14 rebounds as Emporia State overcame an 11 point deficit with 8:58 left in a 91-85 win at Neb.-Omaha on Saturday in Omaha, Neb.

In a game of runs, the Hornets opened the game with a 19-8 lead at the 14:23 mark thanks to five three pointers. Jordan Stout scored six of ESU’s first eight points on a pair of three pointers. After Tim Niles hit back to back three pointers to give ESU a 25-13 lead, UNO went on a 23-6 run to take a five point lead at the 4:43 mark of the half.

The Mavericks went out to an 11 point lead four times in the second half, the last with 8:58 remaining. Robert Moores then hit a three pointer to ignite a 14-2 run that was capped by Lamar Wilbern’s old fashioned three point play with 5:34 left for a 70-69 Hornet lead. After that the lead changed hands six times and there were three ties in the final 5:34 of the game. ESU then hit six of eight free throws in the final 1:50 to seal the win.

Wilbern led five Hornets in double figures. Moores had 19 points, Niles and Adam Holthaus each had 13 points, and Dustin Andrews added ten points.
The next action for the Hornets will be on Tuesday when the travel to league leading Southwest Baptist. Tip-off in Bolivar, Mo. is set for 7:30 p.m.

NOTES:
Stout had a career high eight points in just his third career start.
This was the sixth different starting line up for ESU this year.
