January 28, 2009-Emporia State was outrebounded by 16 as they fell to Missouri Western 75-58 on Wednesday night in St. Joseph, Mo.
ESU trailed by three at the half, but MWSU opened the second half on a 10-2 run to take a 43-32 lead with 17:22 left in the game. The Hornets would cut the lead to 53-48 with 9:55 left but that was a close as they would get. The lead would grow to 20 points with 2:29 left.
Lamar Wilbern led ESU with 20 points and five rebounds and was joined in double figures by Jeremiah Box with ten points.
ESU remains in third place in the MIAA with a 7-5 league mark, thanks to FHSU's win at UNO.
The Hornets are back in action on Super Bowl Sunday when they take on Truman. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. in White Auditorium.
