November 19, 2008 -- The Hornets went toe to toe with the Wildcats for 31 minutes, as Kansas State scored late to take a 82-60 victory. Adam Holthaus had a career night for the Hornets with 10 points and nine rebounds, coming one board short of his first career double-double.
In the first half the Hornets jumped out to a lead early taking a 6-1 lead and were up 8-7 at the 15:00 mark. The Hornets held things close as the lead changed four times before the Wildcats opened things up to a 10 point edge. The lead got to as much as 15 points before the Hornets used a 9-0 run going into halftime to cut the lead to 40-34. The Hornets out rebounded the Wildcats 20-17 in the first frame.
In the second half the Hornets would stay as close as seven before the Wildcats got hot shooting and extended the lead. Holthaus had six of his ten points in the second half for the Hornets.
Holthaus was joined in double figures by Robert Moores who led the Hornets with 12 points and Lamar Wilbern who added 10 points for ESU. Wilbern finished with five rebounds while Spencer Allen added five boards all on the defensive end for the Hornets. Dustin Andrews finished with eight points and five assists to lead the Hornets in that category and was joined by Wilbern and Moores with four assists each.
The Hornets will travel to Wichita, Kan. to face Newman University on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
