January 21, 2009-Emporia State held Ft. Hays State to one field goal in the final 6:30 but the Tigers converted 13 of 16 free throws in the final 4:21 to secure a 78-68 win on Wednesday night in Hays, Kan.
All nine Hornets that played scored led by Tim Niles 14 points off the bench. He was joined in double figures by Adam Holthaus with 13 points, and Lamar Wilbern and Jeremiah Box with 12 each. ESU was held to .382 shooting for the night and were nine of 28 from behind the three point line. FHSU was led by Tim Peinter with 18 points as the Tigers shot .521 from the field for the game.
The Hornets, who are now tied for second place in the MIAA, will travel to Northwest Missouri on Saturday. Tip-off from Bearcat Arena in Maryville, Mo. is set for 3:30 p.m.
