November 26, 2007-In the second best defensive effort of the David Moe era, the #23 Emporia State Hornets defeated Ottawa University Braves 77-43 on Monday night in White Auditorium. Ottawa did not reach double figures until the 7:29 mark in the first half and were held to .271 shooting for the game. Meanwhile the Hornets shot an even .500 from the field for the game. ESU also outrebounded the Braves 36-30 while forcing 22 turnovers while only turning the ball over 13 time themselves.
The Hornets opened up a 16-1 lead to start the game with scoring from four of five starters. The Hornets had two runs in the ballgame of 10-0 or better, something they have only done one other time this season. The lead reached 38 points at 65-27 with 12:38 left in the game, the biggest lead for the Hornets in a ballgame this season.
Wes Book led all scorers with 22 points, 13 of which came in the first half. Caleb Tegtmeier had 13 points and eight rebounds while DeAndre Townsend added 10 points and nine assists with no turnovers.
ESU is back in action on Wednesday, December 5 when the play host to Newman. Tip-off from White Auditorium is set for 7 p.m. It will be the last home game for the Hornets until they host Washburn on January 9 in MIAA play.
