#23 HORNETS WIN IN SAN ANTONIO

December 18, 2007 – A late three-pointer from Wes Book helped the #23 Hornets overcome a strong Ouachita Baptist comeback to earn a 76-70 victory and end a three game losing skid. The Hornets were actually outshot in the game .474 percent to .464 percent, but won the game at the free-throw line making 17 of their 23 attempts while OBU only knocked down 12 or 26 attempts.

The Hornets opened the first half on a 20-5 run led by six points from Tegtmeier. The Tigers rallied by using a 9-0 run of their own to cut the lead to six points halfway through the frame. Late in the first half following a 6-2 run by ESU, the Tigers went on a 11-0 run to cut the lead to one with 1:26 to play in the half. The Hornets used three late free throws to hold on to a 38-34 advantage going into the half.

ESU used the final three free throws of the first half to start a 9-0 run in the opening minutes of the second frame with four straight points coming from DeAndre Townsend. The Tigers used an 8-1 run later in the game to cut the lead to two before the Hornets went on a 10-0 run of their own to take a 67-55 lead with 6:53 remaining. The Tigers went on an 11-2 run late in the frame to cut the lead to three at 71-68 with 1:20 remaining in the game. Book gave ESU the lead with his only field goal of the game with 47 seconds left and Townsend hit two free throws with 18 seconds remaining to ice the win.

Tegtmeier led all scorers as he earned his first double-double fo the season scoring 21 poitns and pulling down 11 rebounds. DeAndre Townsend scored 19 points and joined Matt Boswell in double figures as the Hornet freshman added 10 points. Wes Book had eight points and six rebounds in his second game back from a thumb injury.

The Hornets will travel up the Texas Highways to Wichita Falls where they will face Midwestern State. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. from D.G. Ligon Coliseum. ESU moved to #23 in the NABC Division II Coaches Poll released during the game.
