December 5, 2007-Newman University connected on 17 three pointers as they upset #7 Emporia State 93-89 in overtime in White Auditorium Wednesday night. The 17 made threes are the most by an ESU opponent since Northwest Missouri connected on 17 in White Auditorium on Feb. 8, 2006.
The Hornets were down 74-67 after NU's Kyle Smith hit four free throws following two technical fouls on ESU head coach David Moe. Caleb Tegtmeier hit a three pointer with 13 seconds to pull ESU within a point at 77-76. Smith hit two more free throws with nine seconds left and ESU's Andrew Davison connected on a three pointer with three seconds left to send the game to overtime.
The Jets converted on six of six free throws in the overtime as ESU lost for the first time this year. They also finished the game 17 of 32 from the three-point line good for .531 percent.
DeAndre Townsend scored 24 points even though he did not play in the overtime period due to cramping. Caleb Tegtmeier registered 23 points hitting a career high four three-pointers. Also in double figures were Marvin Lee, Jordan Fithian and Andrew Davison who all had 12 points. ESU's leading scorer Wes Book left with 7:04 to play in the first half and did not return to the game due to injury.
Kyle Smith led the way for the Jets with 28 points on the evening while Kyle Bradley pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Hornets travel to #22 Neb.-Omaha on Saturday. Tip-off from Sapp Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m.
