December 17, 2007 – The #18 Hornets lost their third game in a row as they shot a season low .342 from the field in a 78-73 loss to Angelo State. The Hornets outrebounded the Rams 53-41 but turned the ball over 16 times to the Rams 12 turnovers.
The Hornets held a 23-11 advantage halfway through the first frame but allowed ASU to mount a 23-8 run to take a 34-31 halftime advantage. After hot shooting early the Hornets only managed .333 for the first half while the Rams shot .355 from the field.
The Rams took their biggest lead of the ball game in the second half going up 13 with 10:00 to play. The Hornets went on a 8-2 run in the final 35 seconds aided by cold free-throw shooting from the Rams, but would get no closer than three points at 76-73.
The Hornets had five players in double figures as Jordan Fithain led all Hornet scorers with 14 points and a career high 14 rebounds in his second double-double of the season. Marvin Lee joined Fithian with 14 points and 10 rebounds and his first career double-double. Wes Book scored 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds in his return to the line-up. Caleb Tegtmeier came in with 13 points and nine rebounds while DeAndre Townsend finished with 12 points and six assists.
The Hornets will play tomorrow in against Ouachita Baptist in the 12:45 game at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio, Texas.
