December 8, 2007 – The #7 Hornets fell to #22 Nebraska-Omaha as the Mavericks utilized runs of 10 or more in both frames to pull out a 105-91 victory. The Hornets largest lead came at the 6:15 mark of the first half when they led by nine before they allowed UNO to go on a 13-0 run and take a 50-42 lead into the break. The Hornets only shot .459 on the night while the Mavericks managed to shot .579.
ESU kept the game close in the first half even though UNO won the shooting battle .548 to .447. The Hornets only had three scorers in the first half though Marvin Lee tied his career high of seven rebounds near the end of the first period.
The Hornets worked back in the second half after trailing by as much as 21, using turnovers by the Mavericks to cut the lead to eight at one point. Dustin Andrews led the squad with three steals as the Hornets forced 19 turnovers.
DeAndre Townsend finished with a career high 39 points going 6 for 11 from the 3-point stripe. Andrew Davison and Jordan Fithian each scored 13 points, though all of Fithian’s came in the first half. Matt Boswell was the final Hornet to score in double figures coming through with 10 points in the second half. Marvin Lee grabbed a season and career high 12 rebounds to lead the Hornets.
The Hornets played without second leading scorer Wes Book, who missed the game with a thumb injury, and head coach David Moe, who was suspended following his ejection from ESU's loss to Newman on Wednesday.
ESU will take seven days off during finals week before traveling to San Antonio, Texas for the St. Mary’s River City Classic. They will be in action again against Angelo State on Dec. 17 at 3:00 p.m.
