April 25, 2008-Emporia State guard DeAndre Townsend averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 assists in the first two games of the Collegiate Basketball Invitational held in Wadsworth, Ohio yesterday.

Townsend had 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and just one turnover in his Renacci-Doraty Chevrolet team’s 104-90 loss in the first game. He came back with 10 points, 12 assists, one rebound and one turnover in the Renacci-Doraty’s 104-99 victory in game two. Townsend scored all ten of his points in the second half, with five coming in the last 4:22, as his team overcame a six-point half time deficit. His 12 assists is a tournament record for the two year old event.

Townsend will play for fifth place today against MBM Logistechs at 4 p.m.

The Collegiate Basketball Invitational is a major national basketball event that gathers the finest 64 senior men’'s basketball players from all of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and Division III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I and Division II.

The event takes place at Wadsworth High School in Wadsworth, Ohio, and each team has eight players in an eight-team bracket. Six games will be played both Thursday and Friday with the championship game being played Friday night at 7 p.m.

The CBI will conclude with an all-star game Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in front of a live, ESPNU audience as 20 players will selected to play in the game.
