May 2, 2009 -- The #8 Emporia State baseball team closed out the season with a 5-0 and 13-3 run rule sweep of Southwest Baptist. Emporia State came up with 19 hits on the day and took advantage of five Bearcat errors.
In game one ESU scored five runs in the second and third before cruising to a 5-0 win. At the plate Conner Crumbliss and Andy Cotton each had two RBI while Zach Theadman went two for three. On the mound Ryan Anthony pitched a complete game four hitter striking out nine for his eighth win of the season.
In game two ESU scored in every inning but the fifth as they rolled to a 13-3 run rule victory. At the plate Conner Crumbliss continued his hot streak going three for three with five runs scored and one RBI. Zach Theadman went one for three and drove in three runs. Anthony Dreiling homered and went three for five with three RBI while Mike Sharp homered and finshed one for one of four on the afternoon. Ben Graham pitched six innings allowing only six hits and two runs while striking out six for his sixth win.
ESU will start post-season play next Friday when they take on either Nebraska-Omaha or Missouri Southern in first round lay of the MIAA tournament at 6 p.m. from Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.
