May 1, 2009 -- The #8 Emporia State baseball team fell 4-1 before rebounding to win 4-1 over Southwest Baptist to take the MIAA regular season championship. For the Hornets it is their second straight MIAA Championship, ESU won it despite being outhit 13-12 on the day.
In game one ESU fell 4-1 after SBU scored in the first two innings. Conner Crumbliss drove in the Hornets only run of the day going two for four. Caleb Williamson scored the Hornet run and went two for two on the game. Tyler Applehans lost for the second time this season striking out three over five innings.
In game two ESU scored in the first two innings and held on to take a 4-1 win. Caleb Williamson went two for four on the day with one RBI. Kevin Wempe hit his sixth home run of the season and Kellen Lane drove in the other Hornet run. Colby Killian picked up his fifth win of the season while Diego Soto added his ninth save of the season.
The two teams will return to the field tomorrow for a double header with first pitch scheduled for 12 noon from Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.
