#3 ESU BASEBALL TAKES DOUBLE HEADER WITH PITT STATE

April 8, 2009 -- The #5 Emporia State baseball team swept a mid-week double-header with Pittsburg State 14-2 and 14-10 in Emporia. ESU managed 29 nine hits 11 of which were for extra bases including three home runs.
In game one ESU got four runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings in a 14-2 victory. Chris Dobler homered and drove in three runs and was joined by Jeremy Francis and Kenny Burkhead who each had three RBI. Kevin Wempe also homered and added two RBI along with Andy Cotton who had two RBI. Ben Graham pitched 5.0 innings to pick up his fourth win of the season.
In game two ESU trailed 9-4 at one point before roaring back to take a 14-10 victory. Chris Dobler hit a grand slam in the first inning and finished two of five with four RBI. Andy Cotton went four for four and added two RBI along with Caleb Williamson who also added two. Austin Anderson pitched 5.1 innings in relief to pick up his first victory of the season.
ESU will travel to Kirksville, Mo. this week for double-headers on Friday and Saturday against Truman.
