#3 ESU BASEBALL WINS SERIES WITH DOUBLE-HEADER SWEEP

April 6, 2009 -- The #3 Emporia State baseball team earned a series win with a 6-2, 10-0 double-header sweep of Missouri Western. ESU outhit the Griffons 17-6 on the day that saw only three extra-base hits overall.
In game one ESU took advantage of two late Griffon errors to come from behind for a 6-2 win. Anthony Dreiling, Mike Sharp and Caleb Williamson joined Kenny Burkhead with one RBI. each. Jeremy Francis went two for three and scored a run for the Hornets. Tyler Applehans threw six inning allowing only two first inning runs and striking out seven for his fifth win.
In game two ESU used a four run sixth to cruise to the 10-0 run rule victory. Jeremy Francis continued his hot hitting with two hits and two RBI in the game. Mike Sharp was three for four in the game with an RBI and a run scored. Colby Killian went 6.0 innings allowing only two hits to earn his third win of the season.
ESU will return to the field on Wednesday, April 8 to face Pittsburg State at 3 p.m. in Emporia, Kan.
