#3 ESU USES 32 STRIKEOUTS IN DOUBLE HEADER SWEEP

April 11, 2009 -- #5 Emporia State pitchers combined to strike out 32 batter through 16 innings to cruise to 16-0 and 5-1 victories over Truman. At the plate ESU put together 29 hits including two home runs and three doubles.
In game one, Tyler Applehans was the highlight on the mound pitching a complete game shutout through seven in the 16-0 win. He struck out a career high 17 batters while allowing only two hits, one of which came on a bunt. It was his sixth win of the season as he has won three straight decisions. At the plate Caleb Williamson hit his second straight home run and drove in three runs. Kellen Lane also drove in three runs on the day while Jeremy Francis went two for two and scored three runs. Anthony Dreiling added his third home run and drove in two runs along with Andy Cotton and Kenny Burkhead.
In game two Colby Killian pitching 7.0 innings and struck out a career high 11 to earn his fourth win and second straight in the 5-1 win. Diego Soto added four strikeouts to the tally closing out the final two frames. At the plate Jeremy Francis went two for fivce and drove in two runs as ESU also got RBI from Conner Crumbliss and Kenney Burkhead. All 11 hits for the HOrnets in the game were singles.
ESU will be back in action on April 15 when they travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to take on PSU with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
