#3 ESU BASEBALL SWEEPS TRUMAN IN KIRKSVILLE

April 10, 2009 -- The #5 Emporia State baseball team swept past Truman in Kirksville, Mo. 12-4 and 18-8 in a run rule. The Hornets racked up 28 hits including 14 of those hits going for extra bases.
In game one ESU outhit TSU 17-5 and had four doubles. At the plate Kenny Burkhead was two for four with three runs driven in. Caleb Williamson added his first home run of the season and drove in two runs. Anthony Dreiling also finished with two RBI on the afternoon. Justin Maxson earned his second win pitching 5.0 innings in relief of Ryan Anthony who left the game in the second inning due to an injury.
In game two ESU put up 10 runs in the fifth inning to cruise to a 18-8 run rule win. Marc Albers went three for five with four RBI while Mike Sharp hit his ninth home run of the season and also drove in four runs. Every Hornet starter had atleast one hit in the game as Conner Crumbliss, Jeremy Francis, Williamson and Burkhead all finished with two RBI. On the mound Cole Moore pitched 4.1 inning to pick up his fifth straight win of the season.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 12 noon from Kirksville, Mo.
