April 21, 2009 -- The #3 Emporia State baseball team used a nine run first inning to roll to a 15-3 victory over Sterling College. ESU racked up 18 hits in the game while Hornet pitchers struck out 13 on the night.
At the plate Conner Crumbliss went three for three with three runs scored and three runs driven in. Jeremy Francis also finished three for four with two RBI and two runs scored. Kevin Wempe and Mike Sharp also finished with two RBI while Jacob White added three runs scored.
Tyler Applehans pitched the first two innings to pick up his seventh win in a designated split pitching outing for the Hornet starters. Applehans retired six batters, all of them by strikeout. Ben Graham, Colby Killian, Cole Moore and Diego Soto also saw time on the mound for ESU.
The Hornets will return to the field on Friday, April 24 in Joplin, Mo. when they take on Missouri Southern. First pitch for that match-up is scheduled for 6 p.m.
