June 17, 2009-Former Emporia State pitcher Trent Lare was signed by the New York Yankees organization on Tuesday and will report to the Staten Island Yankees. He had spent the last three summers with the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.
Lare earned second-team All-MIAA and second-team all-region honors for Emporia State in 2007. The Vassar, Kan. native was 9-3 with a 3.00 ERA and 74 strike outs as a senior. He only walked 12 batters in 78.0 innings and had four complete games for the Hornets in 2007.
He signed with Kalamazoo following his senior year and spent three seasons in Michigan. He had 35 starts in 38 total appearances, a 15-12 record, a 3.59 ERA, five complete games, four shutouts and 176 strikeouts in 228 innings of work for the Kings.
Staten Island is a Class A Short-Season affiliate of the New York Yankees and plays in the New York-Penn League. They open their 76 game season on Friday against Brooklyn Cyclones.
