#14 ESU KNOCKS OFF UNO 12-7

February 29, 2008 -- The #18 Hornet baseball team knocked off Nebraska-Omaha 12-7 on Friday. ESU outhit UNO 13-10 in the contest while Hornets pitchers struck out eight Mavericks. At one point ESU trailed 5-0 before scoring the next nine runs to go ahead for good.
Richie Stewart went one for four in the ball game and drove in three runs on a home run to right field. Eric Shortell was two for three in the game and scored three Hornet runs while Anthony Dreiling went two for five with two runs driven in. Chris Weimer homered for the Mavericks.
On the mound Daniel Waggoner came on after an injury to start Ryan Anthony to earn the win pitching five innings while allowing only four hits and two runs and striking out five.
The Hornets will go up against UNO again tomorrow in a single nine-inning game starting a 12 noon at Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.
