March 1, 2008 -- After Nebraska-Omaha took a 12-10 lead in the top of the seventh inning ESU scored 11 runs in the seventh and eight inning to earn a 21-14 victory. ESU outhit the Mavericks 23 to 14 on the windy day that saw 18 of the games 37 hits go for extra bases. Richard Timbrook pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Hornets to pick up the win, while Tim Huber earned the loss for UNO.
At the plate Brian Majors led the way going two for six with four RBI including a three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning. Keith Hernandez added three RBI and a home run of his own in the eighth inning as the Hornets got four home runs on the day with the others coming from Nick Carlson and Eric Shortell. Richie Stewart also finished with three RBI on three of four hitting and scored four Hornet runs.
ESU will return to the field tomorrow when the face Upper Iowa in a single-nine inning game at 12 noon from Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.
