March 8, 2008 -- The #17 Hornets split with Minnesota Duluth on Saturday losing the opener 15-2 and winning game two by a score of 17-6. ESU is now 8-3 on the season.
In game one Hornet pitching gave up 10 runs in the fifth inning and the ESU bats just did not come to life. Anthony Dreiling and Nick Carlson drove in the only two Hornet runs as the offense came up with on five hits.
In game two their Hornets got 3.2 innings from Diego Soto as he picked up the win in the seven inning game while striking out six. Brett McBride came on in the seventh and struck out two in his first inning of work this season. At the plate Eric Shortell continued his RBI pace driving in five runs on two hits. Nick Wolfe added a three-run home run for the Hornets in the sixth inning.
ESU will play tomorrow against Minnesota-Duluth and Fort Hays State in single nine inning games. They are scheduled to start with Duluth at 1:30 p.m. with the game against Hays starting roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
