March 2, 2008 -- The Hornets trailed early again putting up nine runs in the third and four inning to erase a 4-3 deficit for a 14-5 victory. Tyler Applehans only allowed one earned run as he pitched 5.2 innings and struck out eight in the ball game. Josh Corpening came on to pitch the final two innings and struck out four more Peacock hitters.
At the plate Brian Majors led off the ball game with his second home run in as many days. Two batters later Eric Shortell pulled a home run down the left field line, his third of the season. Majors finished three of four on the night and drove in five runs giving him nine RBI in the last two games. Nick Wolfe continued his hot hitting going three for three on the afternoon with two runs scored.
ESU will next be in action on Wednesday, March 5 against Washburn in a single nine-inning game at Glennen Field. First pitch for the non-conference contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
