April 20, 2008 -- The Hornets needed a walk off home run from Keith Hernandez in the second game to push their winning streak to 35 games. The home run gave the Hornets a 10-9 victory in the bottom of the 10th inning, after taking a 20-3 win the first game. Eric Shortell hit six home runs on the day for the Hornets who belted out 11 as a team on the day.
In game one the Hornets put up ten runs in the first inning and it was all they would need on their way to a 20-3 victory. Eric Shortell hit four home runs while going four for four with seven runs driven in and five runs scored. Brian Majors finished the game three of five with three RBI and three runs scored. Keith Hernandez also homered for ESU and drove in three runs along with Kevin Wempe who homered and drove in three. Andy Anderson also added a home run and drove in two runs for ESU. Eleven of the Hornets 17 hits went for extra bases. Ryan Anthony pitched 5.2 innings to pick up his fourth victory of the season. Diego Soto closed out the final 1.11 innings without allowing a hit and striking out three.
In game two Keith Hernandez hit his 13th home run of the season in the bottom of the tenth to give ESU a walk off 10-9 victory. Eric Shortell added to more home runs giving him 17 on the season as he drove in five runs and scored two. Hernandez finished the day two of six with two RBI. Daniel Waggoner picked up his fifth victory of the season in relief for the Hornets who trailed three times during the game.
The Hornets, now 42-3 on the season and 28-0 in the MIAA, will next be in action when the travel to Warrensburg next weekend to take on Central Missouri. First pitch for April 25th's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the road.
