March 19, 2008 -- The Hornets scored three or more runs in every inning but the third as they knocked off Newman 27-10 at Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex. The Hornets put up 28 hits as all but three of the 17 Hornets hitters finished with a hit. The Hornets also hit three home runs in the ballgame as the Jets used seven pitchers as ESU batted around in three of the six innings.
At the plate Brian Majors had another good night going four for four with six RBI and four runs scored. Eric Shortell continued his RBI tear getting four to move to 38 on the season including a towering home run in the fifth inning. Nick Wolfe finished with a home run and five RBI going three of four at the plate and scoring two runs. Kellen Lane was also three for four on the night with four runs scored. Kevin Wempe also homered after coming on in the third inning he hit a three run shot in the sixth inning. Hornet senior basketball player Jordan Fithian was one for two on the evening with a run scored after coming into the game in the sixth inning.
Diego Soto pitched four innings in the run ruled game to pick up his second win of the season. The Hornets moved to 17-3 on the season and will play Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Mo. on Friday March 21 and Saturday, March 22.
