April 5, 2008 -- The #6 ESU baseball team pushed their all-time high winning streak to 24 games as they took a double header from Fort Hays State 23-8 and 15-5 at Glennen Field. The Hornets are now just three games shy of the MIAA's all-time longest winning streak of 27 games set by Central Missouri. Brian Majors hit successfully in both games to push his team all-time team high hitting streak to 25 games.
In game one the Hornet bats got going early as they scored 16 runs over the first three innings including a nine run third on the way to a 23-8 victory. The Hornets had five home runs and eight of their 16 hits went for extra bases as Brian Majors was a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Majors finished three for four on the day with four RBI while Andy Anderson and Eric Shortell each added home runs and three RBI each. The other Hornet home runs came from Conner Crumbliss and Keith Hernandez. Every Hornet starter had atleast one hit and one RBI in the contest. On the mound Brock Nehls went 5.0 innings striking out three and only allowing one earned run for his sixth win of the season.
In game two the Hornets used a sixth run second inning to pace themselves to a 15-5 win. This game saw four Hornet home runs and seven extra base hits overall. Keith Hernandez hit two home runs and drove in seven runs going four for four on the night and scoring three runs. Conner Crumbliss also went four for four with three RBI and hit two doubles while scoring three runs. The Hornets one three seven hitters in the line-up all had atleast one RBI in the contest.
The Hornets, who are now 31-3 and 17-0 in the MIAA, will be back in action tomorrow at 12 noon from Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.
