ESU BASEBALL OPENS SEASON #18

January 2, 2008-The Emporia State baseball team is continuing the trend of Hornet teams being nationally ranked. The Hornets will open the 2008 season ranked #18 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's NCAA Division II Preseason Poll. ESU is the highest ranked team from the MIAA and the Central Region.

The Hornets were 41-24 last season and won the MIAA Tournament Championship, sweeping Central Missouri in Warrensburg. ESU advanced to the NCAA Central Region tournament for the fourth straight season. Conner Crumbliss is back for his third year with the Hornets after leading ESU with a .357 average last season. Keith Hernandez led ESU with 11 home runs and 78 RBI last season.

The Hornets are scheduled to open the 2008 season on February 15 at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.

ESU is the only NCAA Division II school to have their baseball (#18), men's (#23) and women's (#13) basketball, women's tennis (#24) and volleyball (#15) teams all nationally ranked in the top 25 at this time.
