May 3, 2008 -- The Hornets were outhit 24-14, but managed to escape Falley Field with a split with the Ichabods falling 10-7 in the first game before winning 5-1 in game two of the doubleheader. Hornet pitchers stranded 13 Ichabod runners on base while the Hornets only left five runners on base.
In game one, ESU posted a 7-0 lead before WU scored 10 unanswered runs to pull out a 10-7 victory. The Hornets struggled in the field committing four errors allowing 16 Ichabod hits. Nick Wolfe homered for ESU going two of three at the plate and driving in two runs. Keith Hernandez also drove in two runs for the Hornets. Ty Reese was the pitcher of record for the Hornets moving to 4-1 on the season.
In game two ESU got a strong pitching performance from Ryan Anthony as they earned a 5-1 victory. Anthony pitched a complete game striking out seven and only walking two and not allowing an earned run. For Anthony he moved to 5-1 on the season. Kevin Wempe hit a home run in his return to his hometown finishing the day two for three with three runs driven in. Anthony Dreiling added an RBI as he drove in what would prove to be the game winning run in the top of the ninth inning.
The Hornets, 45-7 and 31-4 in the MIAA, will conclude their season with Senior Day tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex.
