#6 ESU WINS TURNPIKE TUSSLE OPENER

May 2, 2008 -- The #6 ESU baseball team used four home runs and 12 total hits to earn a 15-11 victory in the opener of the Turnpike Tussle. ESU saw an eight run second inning lead erased as the Ichabods scored eight of their own in the third and fourth innings. The game saw a total of six home runs as a strong wind blew out to right field.
 
Keith Hernandez had his second straight two home run game as he went deep twice in this game including a grand slam in the Hornets five run second inning. He added a two run homer later in the fourth inning and finished the day with eight total RBI. Eric Shortell added a solo shot of his own to move to within one home run of tieing the MIAA single season record of 20 home runs. Anthony Dreiling also added a solo shot and drove in two runs on the day. Tyler Applehans pitched six innings to pick up his eighth win while Aaron Burris picked up his fifth save of the season by pitching the final 3.0 innings of the game.
 
The Hornets, 44-6 and 30-3 in the MIAA, will face Washburn in a double header in Topeka tomorrow at 2 p.m.
