Brock Nehls started the game by striking out the side around a home run in the first inning and finished game with five strikeouts. Ty Reese struck out five as well in his longest outing of the season pitching 4.2 innings in relief. Richard Timbrook then closed out the game by striking out the side in the bottom of the eighth inning.
At the plate for the Hornets Keithe Hernandez homered to deep right field in the first inning to give the Hornets their only lead of the ball game. Brian Majors finished the afternoon one for four with the other two Hornet RBI. The Hornets have not lost their last two games to Wichita State by a combined five runs.
The Hornets are now 3-2 on the season on the season and will travel to Warrensburg, Mo. where they will take on Nebraska-Omaha on Feb. 29.
