May 11, 2008-The Hornets took an 11-4 win over Central Missouri in a three hour, thirty minute game that took a total of 19 hours to complete. The game was suspended by rain at 6:37 p.m. on May 10 and concluded at 10:16 a.m on May 11. The Hornets and Mules combined for 28 hits and 13 of which went for extra bases. The Hornet pitches forced a season high 15 runner stranded on base for the Mules.
At the plate the Hornets set two MIAA single season records. Eric Shortell went two for five with two solo home runs to set the MIAA single season home run record with 22 on the season, breaking the old record of 20 held by Dan Patterson of Southeast Missouri State and Ben Slemmer of Central Missouri. Brian Majors went one for four and had his 105th hit setting a new MIAA record bettering the mark of 104 set by Sittichoke Huckentod of Central Missouri. Caleb Williamson went two for five with three runs driven in, including a two run triple in the seventh inning. On the mound Aaron Burris pitched five innings in relief of starter Ryan Anthony and struck out four to earn his second victory of the season.
ESU will take on UCM on Sunday afternoon for the MIAA's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament next weekend. The Mules defeated FHSU in an elimination game to reach the one game, winner take all final.
