May 18, 2008 -- The #23 Central Missouri baseball team captured the NCAA Divison II Central Regional Title with a 11-6 win over #12 Nebraska-Omaha in Emporia, Kan. THe Mules put up five runs in the first inning and never looked back putting up four more in the seventh to put the game away. The UNO Mavericks actually outhit the Mules 12-9 in the ballgame.
Central Missouri got it going early Blaine Rutledge doubled down the right field line to put the Mules on the board. Balin Bergman followed that up with a double of his own to give UCM the early 2-0 lead. UCM then put together three more runs in the second inning to give their squad an early 5-0 lead.
The Mavericks would battle back scoring four runs over the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to cut the lead to one. A two run double by Iain Dykins would put the Mules ahead for good as they put up four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Rutledge finished with four RBI and was three for four in the ballgame, on the mound Tom Latimore picked up his third win of the season. For the Mavericks Dustin Koca and Brian Strawn both had home runs.
The Mules will travel to Sauget, Ill. where they will face the winner of the Franklin Pierce/Bryant Regional final at 6:30 p.m. on May 24th in the Division II National Baseball Championship.
