EMPORIA STATE RANKED 11TH IN PRODUCING ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICANS

July 21, 2008-- On the strength of two Academic All-America selections this year, Emporia State University is ranked 11th in the nation in producing Academic All-Americans named by the College Sports Information Director’s of America (CoSIDA) in the 21 st century. Hornet student-athletes have been named Academic All- America 16 times since 2000.

On the conference level, the MIAA easily has outdistanced its closest peers, with 172 total CoSIDA Academic All-America winners this decade. The now defunct North Central Conference is second with 126, while the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) is third with 93.

"The entire conference should be very proud of its success in producing top-level student-athletes -- both on the field and in the classroom," MIAA Commissioner Jim Johnson said. "The MIAA stands out among Division II conferences in many areas, but none speak better than the commitment to graduating highly-successful young men and women from our institutions.

ESU’s two Academic All-America selections, Michelle Stueve in women’s basketball and Brian Majors in baseball, during the 2007-08 school year led the MIAA.

A total of six Hornets were honored as Academic All-District selections, the first step in the Academic All-America process, this past year.
