April 1, 2008--Prom season is upon the Flint Hills for area high school students and thanks to the Emporia State University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) even for senior citizens. The ESU SAAC is inviting Emporia area senior citizens to “Dancing with the Seniors” at their second annual Senior Citizen Prom at the ESU Memorial Union’s Colonial Ballroom, April 3 from 7-9 p.m.
”Senior citizens play a big role in all of our athletic events and SAAC wants to show how much we appreciate them,” said ESU softball player and SAAC member Megan Grisell. "Last year over 50 seniors from the Emporia area enjoyed our first prom."
The night will consist of music from the Big Band era and guest visit by the ESU Swing club. The Senior Citizen Prom is for adults 60 years or over in age, and is free of charge. L-CAT transportation service will be available by calling 342-6119 on the night of the prom. Lions Club will provide valet parking and Emporia student-athletes will meet seniors at the entrance to the Memorial Union and will be available to escort them to the Colonial Ballroom.
SAAC was adopted at the 1989 NCAA Convention and was formed primarily to review and offer student-athlete input on NCAA activities and proposed legislation that affected student-athlete welfare. SAAC provides insight on the student-athlete experience, generates a student-athlete voice within the NCAA structure, and actively promotes a positive student-athlete image.
The event is made possible by the following area businesses - Lyon County State Bank, Holiday Resort, Presbyterian Manor, The Sterling House, Charter Funerals, Farm Bureau Financial Service, Dave's Pumping Service, Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia Senior Center, Navrat's Office Supply, Scrappy Girls, Designs by Sharon, Emporia Floral, Riverside Gardens and L-Cat
