University Assessment Committee Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, March 8, 2006 – 2:00 pm
Kansas Business Hall of Fame (CH 205)

Present: Anthony Ambrosio, Herbert Achleitner (chair), Stacey Braun, Susan Dollar, Daniel Kolb, Carol Kohr, Neal Luo, Marie Miller, Brenda Nichols, Dennis Pelsma, Bill Smith, and Derek Zelmer.

  1. Approval of Minutes:
Minutes from the February 1, 2006 meeting were distributed and approved.
  2. University Assessment Plan Summary (UAPS):
Dr. Ambrosio provided an update on the status of the university assessment plans. Most assessment plans will be processed by the beginning of April. A summary will be presented at the next meeting on April 5, 2006. Results from the UAPS will be used to direct the content and strategy of the fall Assessment Forum.
  3. Peer Teaching Evaluation:
Susan Dollar distributed an example evaluation from Butler County Community College, (i.e.,” Instructional Assessment Report” and “Adjunct Instructor Self-Assessment Form”). Derek Zelmer shared his department evaluation (i.e.,” Classroom Observation Checklist”). It is completed once a year for retention purposes, and chair and faculty recognition. Peer Teaching Evaluations will be revisited at the next meeting. Marie Miller will share an evaluation from the Music Dept. She is on a committee to examine a single teacher evaluation model.
  4. Other:
    1. HLC Resolution:
Dr. Achleitner read the letter from Dr. Grover regarding the HLC resolution distributed at our previous meeting. ESU will support 5 people to attend the HLC meeting. Four programs, one from each college, will be identified from the university assessment plan summaries. Programs will be considered if they are “developmentally ready” for the level of involvement required by HLC. Chairs from each identified program will be contacted and asked if they (or a member of their faculty) would be willing to attend.
    2. Higher Learning Commission’s On-Line Survey:
Dr. Ambrosio distributed instructions to complete the HLC survey.

Next meeting date and time:
April 5, 2006, KBHF Conference Room, CH205 at 2:00 pm.

Meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
