University Assessment Committee Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, February 1, 2006 – 2:00 pm
Kansas Business Hall of Fame (CH 205)
Present: Anthony Ambrosio, Herbert Achleitner (chair), Susan Dollar, Dustin Gann, Daniel Kolb, Carol Kohr, Dennis Pelsma, Christy Schreck, Bill Smith, Rod Sobieski, and Derek Zelmer.
- Approval of Minutes:
Minutes from the December 7, 2005 meeting were distributed and approved. - Semester Meeting Schedule:
It was decided that the University Assessment Committee will meet on the first Wednesday of each month this semester, with the exception of March. It was agreed that our next meeting will be Wednesday, March 8th at 2:00 pm. The schedule for the spring semester is as follows: March 8, April 5, & May 3. All meetings begin at 2:00 pm in the KBHF, (CH 205). - Progress report on University Assessment Plans:
Dr. Ambrosio discussed the current state of the University Assessment plans from each program/department. Approximately 60-70% of the plans have been submitted to date. The Assessment plans will provide feedback to enhance the Assessment forum. He will share results of these plans as it becomes available. The review should be complete by the April 5th meeting. - Assessment Forum:
The format and dates for the Assessment Forum were discussed. The following items were discussed and accepted.- The forum should take place on September 21 or September 28,
2006. - The forum will take place in the afternoon beginning with a poster session followed by 1 or 2 assessment workshops; as needed.
- Workshop needs will be determined by results of the university assessment plans from departments/programs.
- The April 5, 2006, meeting will be used to select participants for specific invitations.
- We will encourage all members of the ESU Committee to submit posters, however, we will invite specific participants who demonstrate “exceptional” practice as determined by university assessment plans results.
- Deans should be encouraged to attend.
- The forum should take place on September 21 or September 28,
- SKSC (State of Kansas Scholarship Contest) Testing:
Dr. Ambrosio explained the State of Kansas Scholarship program, which is managed by the Assessment office. The program is in its 84th year. The program is designed to provide a means of recognizing and rewarding academic achievement by students in the schools of Kansas. Last year over 6,200 students attending 185 schools across the state of Kansas participated. The SKSC brochures were handed out. - Other:
- HLC meeting: The committee unanimously passed a resolution regarding sending teams of attendees to the HLC accreditation meeting in Chicago on May 31-June 1, 2006. Dr. Ambrosio will compose and distribute a written draft of the resolution for the committee approval, via e-mail. The final draft of the resolution will be submitted to Dr. John Schwenn.
- General Assembly: Dr. Ambrosio submitted a summary of results from a UAC committee discussion/survey on the areas/topics that should be addressed by the general assembly speaker. The results were shared with the speaker prior to her visit on January 11, 2006.
- Mission and procedures: This will be tabled until a future meeting.
- Issues for discussion at next meeting: Susan Dollar will present peer teaching evaluations. This will be put on agenda for the next meeting.
